Controlling the Controllable

WCYD ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On the the entire software team at my office was laid off due to budget issues. The whole process was handled amicably and we could tell management hated having to do it

but it still fuckin' sucked.

I've found it helpful to set weekly goals to keep myself accountable

Since then I've been actively looking around for new opportunities and hustling on my own projects on the side, and focusing on controlling the controllable. By that I mean taking charge of the things I can change on a daily basis. This means not sleeping in (as tempting as it is), heading to the library where I am writing this now, and sending out job applications/working on my projects.

I've found it helpful to set weekly goals to keep myself accountable and on track - not letting myself slip into the vidya and lounging pipeline. My weekly plan is very simple: I tick the once-off things, and put a tally mark next to the ones I need to do multiple of. Here's my plan for this week:

- [ ] Write a blog post

- [ ] Develop startup idea further

- [ ] Send out 5 Job applications: || (2 applications sent so far)

- [ ] 2x 30 mins cardio

- [ ] 2x Weights in gym

If it looks simple it's because it is. For me, the simpler the plan the more likely I am to stick with it. A lot of things feel very uncertain at the moment, and taking control of the things I can control helps me feel more secure. At least I've had time to pick up tennis.

Good luck fellow Strugglers 🫡
